Holy shit where does this come from?
[Black and white picture of Black Transwomen protesting, carrying signs that say “Money for hormones, not war!”, “We also have rights!”, and “Trans Rights Now!”]
The International Action Center (IAC) is an anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist, anti-war organization founded in 1992. This photo was likely taken during one of their ‘Trans Day of Action’. The background resembles Union Square so I’m assuming this is in NYC.
I backtraced the image but had no luck finding the source.

Salvation Army ‘Does Not Consider Homosexual Orientation a Sin’
The Salvation Army removed two links to organizations that advocate so-called ex-gay or reparative therapy from its website Tuesday, after LGBT organization Truth Wins Out contacted the charity group about the supposed endorsement of the scientifically discredited practice that aims to turn gay people straight.
"We thank the Salvation Army for acting swiftly and decisively in addressing our concerns about links to ‘ex-gay’ organizations," said Truth Wins Out executive director Wayne Besen. “This is a step in the right direction and congruent with their antidiscrimination campaign. We hope this action leads to further progress in gaining the full confidence and trust of the LGBT community.”
In a letter sent to Truth Wins Out Tuesday, the Salvation Army’s director of communications claimed the “ex-gay” links were part of an archived page that was inadvertently republished when the organization relaunched its site last month.
"We apologize for our oversight and any confusion this may have caused," said Jennifer Byrd in the letter, published at Truth Wins Out. "The Salvation Army does not consider homosexual orientation a sin. Please know that we serve anyone who comes to our doors without discrimination."
The offending links, posted under the site’s resource list for dealing with “sexual addictions,” included Harvest USA, which bills itself as a “ministry committee to offering hope in Jesus to men and women struggling with sexual brokenness and sin.” The second resource, Pure Life Ministries, boasts 35 full-time “biblical counselors and support staff” who its website promises are dedicated to “bringing the hope, healing, and restoration found only in Christ to those who have been touched by the leprosy of sexual sin.” Pure Life’s website notes that most of its counselors and staff are themselves “graduates” of the faith-based counseling programs.
Both organizations advocate the scientifically discredited practice of “reparative therapy,” which aims to turn gay people straight through prayer and counseling. Reparative or “ex-gay” therapy has been disavowed by every major medical and psychological organization in the country, and its use by licensed therapists on minors has been outlawed in California and New Jersey.
"Harvest USA and Pure Life Ministries are two destructive organizations dedicated to demonizing LGBT people," Truth Wins Out associate director Evan Hurst said in a statement. "The Salvation Army did the right thing today by removing these ‘ex-gay’ groups from its website before they could harm more innocent victims."
The Salvation Army, a Christian organization, has had a strained relationship with the LGBT population. In 2011, several LGBT advocates called for a boycott of donations to the Salvation Army’s iconic bell-ringers collecting change outside storefronts in red buckets, citing allegations that the evangelical charity refused to serve LGBT people because it considered them “sexually impure,” according to NBC.
But Tuesday’s statement from the Salvation Army’s director of communication indicates an apparent shift in tone, as the organization strives to fulfill its new antidiscrimination policy, which prohibits the denial of services or employment based on race, religion, ancestry, national origin, sex, or sexual orientation.
due to all the anti-Salvation Army posts I’ve seen lately, I feel like this should be seen because they’ve addressed the allegations and made steps to repair the damage so now we can continue to donate to them and help people in need and know they’re not facing discrimination from them.

In 31 states, rapists are allowed to sue victims they’ve impregnated for custody rights.
There’s a case in Boston, MA right now in which a rapist is taking advantage of this. He pleaded guilty of rape in 2011 and was sentenced to 16 years probation; however, this sentence includes 16 years of family court as well, which the victim must also attend. He’s using this to sue for joint custody of her child and will only withdraw his law suit if he is free from paying any form of child support. This entire sentence seems like much more of a punishment for the victim than it is for the rapist, and for the state to allow such a thing, the victim is suing.
As stated in the court complaint, “Even if the family court ruled in the [victim]’s favor on issues currently in dispute, such as whether the criminal defendant should be granted visitation rights to [her] child, [she] will suffer harm from the constant threat of new issues arising in family court until her child reaches adulthood, including, for example, efforts by the criminal defendant to seek to modify child support orders and enforce his parental rights at the trial court level and on appeal.”
If this woman is forced to attend 16 years of family court with her rapist, she is not only forced to confront a traumatic event that she should never have to deal with again, but she is subjected to the possibility of losing pieces of her child to him over and over again for all of those years. In addition to this constant state of fear and anguish she would face, just by being sent to something considered ‘family’ court—for her and her rapist—she’s being disrespected and her rape undermined by even the suggestion that this is a family situation. By doing this, the law is making felony into family.
In 31 states, rapists are actually given rights instead of having much of anything taken away. In being given these rights, they are being given the chance to further torment the woman and possibly abuse the child. It is not okay to reward rapists and further punish victims, and the ignorance of rape and how our justice system is handling it needs to turn around.
Please sign this petition to ban rapists from being able to sue for custody rights. This issue is so little known, yet so important, and I don’t know any better way of trying to make this change.
HOW ARE THERE LESS THAN A HUNDRED SIGNATURES!?!!
There are only 600 signatures. Even if this doesn’t affect anything, at least we can prove that there are people in this world that understand that this is wrong, that regular people know this is unacceptable. Maybe if we show there’s enough of us it’ll mean something to someone, if only cause they want our vote.
yeah locking this down federally would be a really good thing.
What if Millennials’ aversion to car-buying isn’t a temporary side effect of the recession, but part of a permanent generational shift in tastes and spending habits? It’s a question that applies not only to cars, but to several other traditional categories of big spending—most notably, housing. And its answer has large implications for the future shape of the economy—and for the speed of recovery.

It’s safe to say that a decent number of Tumblr users are a part of the Millennial generation. So, tell us: Do you own a car or house? If not, why?
IT’S BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO DISPOSABLE INCOME YOU THUNDERING IDIOTS. Fucking preference has nothing to do with it. 50% of college graduates have no job! They all have the most student loan debt ever! What are you asking this question for?!
Also: housing is a good bit more expensive now.
My parents got a 15-year mortgage on a new house in the mid-70s. The house was $32,000. Average home price in that area now? $190,000.
So, home prices went up. Food prices went up. Health care prices went WAY UP. Rent prices went up. Higher education went up so damn high that some of us forgo that all together. Energy prices went up. Car prices went up.
Prices of prices went up.
We also pay cell phone bills, internet bills, data plans, text plans, online subscriptions, cable/satellite tv, netflix, DVR subscriptions — bills that didn’t even exist 30-40 years ago. We also use computers and smartphones and microwaves and other consumer electronics that didn’t exist 20-50 years ago.
We need medications and doctors and contact lenses and tampons and maxi pads and other things that cost money just to be alive and keep us healthy.
Most of us can’t afford to:
- Get married and have a “Traditional” big wedding
- Buy a house
- Buy a new car
- PLAN to have children
- Take two, consecutive weeks of vacation.
Jobs that paid 50k in the late 1990s now pay between 30-35. Interest rates that favor consumers have gone down.
So I say, no. We are not choosing not to buy homes. We’re not choosing to take the bus in cities where there’s no good public transit. WE ARE NOT CHOOSING TO LIVE WHAT SOCIETY DEEMS AS AN UNDESIRABLE LIFESTYLE.
Don’t even get me started on the fact that these two people in the picture are young white hipsters. Young black and brown folks have been forgoing homeownership and buying new cars for decades, this shit isn’t new, pal. You’re just acting like this shit is new because it’s hitting white folks.
anyway, my point is: We are fucking broke.
read the commentary above ^^
"Hey. Hey, guys. I know the economy being fucked up is totally our fault, but what if we tell people the next generation…wants to be poor?”
Oh look I’m reblogging this again.
New print for Otakon Vegas! I really liked how the lighting turned out on this piece.
Funny story. When I was playing Pokemon X, I encountered the first cave. Being the experienced Pokemon trainer since Pokemon Red, I sarcastically thought to myself, “I bet the first Pokemon I run into is going to be a zubat. JUST WATCH.” Then the battle music cued and what do I see? A HOARD OF FIVE FREAKING ZUBATS.
My luck is incredible.
